What Must We Do?

Scripture: Acts 2:37-41

After Peter preached about Jesus in Acts 2, the crowd asked a deeply honest question:

“What shall we do?”

That question matters because it recognizes something many people avoid: change is needed.

Peter’s answer was simple:“Repent and be baptized.”

Repentance is more than feeling guilty. It’s turning. A change of direction. A surrender of control. It means we stop trying to define life on our own terms and instead trust Jesus enough to follow Him.

That sounds simple, but surrender is difficult because we like control.

We want Jesus as Savior without allowing Him to be Lord.

We want peace without repentance.Freedom without surrender.Transformation without obedience.

But home is found on the other side of surrender.

Notice too that Peter connects repentance with receiving the Holy Spirit. Christianity is not simply behavior modification—it is God Himself dwelling within His people. The Holy Spirit comforts, convicts, empowers, teaches, and transforms us from the inside out.

Many people spend years trying to fix themselves through sheer effort, only to discover they cannot carry the weight forever.

You were never meant to save yourself.

Jesus already came for that.

And because of His death and resurrection, you can stop striving and start surrendering.

Maybe today your next step is confession.Maybe it’s repentance.Maybe it’s finally taking the step of baptism.Maybe it’s asking God to fill your life with His Spirit again.

Whatever it is, don’t ignore the invitation.

“What must we do?”

Surrender.

Reflection Question:

What area of your life are you still trying to control instead of surrendering to God?
