Into the Water

Scripture: Matthew 3:13-17

One of the most remarkable moments in the Gospels is when Jesus Himself is baptized.

Think about that.

Jesus had no sin to repent of. He didn’t need cleansing. Yet He stepped into the water anyway.

Why?

Because Jesus was identifying fully with humanity and modeling obedience for us. Before public ministry, before miracles, before sermons—Jesus entered the water.

And when He did, heaven responded.

The Father spoke:“This is my Son, whom I love.”

The Spirit descended like a dove.

Baptism became a moment marked by identity, surrender, and the presence of God.

Sometimes people avoid baptism because they feel unworthy. They think:“I need to clean my life up first.”“I need to know more.”“I need to become spiritually mature.”

But baptism is not a reward for people who have everything together. It’s an act of trust from people who are surrendering themselves to Jesus.

No one in Scripture ever graduated into baptism through perfection.

They came honestly.Broken.Repentant.Willing.

That’s the invitation for us too.

Baptism is not about showcasing your goodness. It’s about declaring your need for grace.

And there’s something powerful about physically stepping into the water and saying:“Jesus, my life belongs to You.”

Sometimes obedience opens space for deeper intimacy with God than endless hesitation ever will.

Reflection Question:

Have you been waiting to “get your life together” before fully obeying God in baptism?
