Scripture: Jonah 4:6–7
God gives Jonah a plant.
Shade.Comfort.Relief.
Jonah is happy.
Then God sends a worm.
The plant dies. The comfort disappears. And Jonah is angry again.
It feels strange—until you realize what God is doing.
He’s exposing Jonah’s heart.
Jonah cares deeply…just not about what God cares about.
He celebrates comfort.He resents mercy.
And sometimes, God allows things to be removed—not to hurt us, but to reveal us.
The “worms” in our lives—those frustrating, inconvenient disruptions—often uncover what we’ve been clinging to.
Not to destroy us…but to transform us.
Prayer:
God, help me see the areas where I’ve become too attached to comfort. Use even difficult moments to reveal and shape my heart. Amen.
