The Cost of Leadership

Scripture:
“If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me.” — John 12:26
Leadership often looks appealing from a distance. We admire influence, impact, and authority. What we don’t always see is the criticism that often accompanies them.
Elisha learned this lesson quickly.
The moment he stepped into the calling God had placed on his life, he faced public rejection. The crowd wasn’t merely insulting Elisha; they were rejecting the authority and purpose God had placed upon him.
Leadership always attracts opinions.
Parents experience it. Teachers experience it. Pastors experience it. Business leaders experience it. Anyone who chooses to lead with conviction will eventually encounter criticism.
The temptation is to let criticism define us. We begin questioning every decision and doubting every step. We become more concerned with pleasing people than obeying God.
But leadership was never about universal approval. It was always about faithfulness.
Jesus Himself was criticized, misunderstood, rejected, and opposed. If the perfect Son of God could not avoid criticism, neither will we.
The goal is not to avoid criticism. The goal is to remain faithful to what God has called us to do.
God never asked us to please everyone. He asked us to follow Him.
Prayer:
Lord, help me lead with courage and humility. Protect me from allowing criticism to distract me from Your calling. Give me wisdom to receive helpful correction and discernment to ignore voices that pull me away from You. May my greatest desire be faithfulness to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
